SAVE THE AMAZON

Miss BumBum contestants in the Amazon tie their bikini-clad bodies to trees and tape their mouths shut in campaign to protect rainforest

CONTESTANTS of Miss BumBum Brazil 2017 turned political by tying their bodies to trees, in a bid to protect the Amazon.

The models posed to protest the Brazilian president Michel Temer's decision to scrap an Amazon reserve - opening up the previously protected area to mining.

The decision caused wide spread condemnation across Brazil and among environmentalists across the globe.

The 4.6 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest called the Rena reserve had been protected since 1984.

It contains half the worlds’ tropical rainforests, and its trees absorb and store vast amounts of carbon dioxide.

But last week, the right-wing leader decided to allow companies to mine the land in a bit to "stimulate" the economy.

In response, the BumBum girls tied themselves to trees, wrote slogans on their body, held signs slamming president Temer and covered their mouths in tape.

In a collective statement they said: "We do not agree with this decision. It is our forest, it should not be used for exploitation."

The stunners from the South American country are currently battling it out to win a new competition that comes with the prize of a saucy Playboy photoshoot.

They are all competing to be crowned the Muse of Ipanema and win a spot on the cover of Playboy Portugal.
